Authentic Heart Zen is a Sōtō Zen Buddhist Organization in the 

lineage of Eihei Dogen Daiosho, founder of the Sōtō Zen School in Japan. Shunryu Suzuki Roshi founded the San Francisco Zen Center.

THE FOUNDER'S LINEAGE

Myoshin Tom Jones, founder of Authentic Heart Zen, is an ordained Sōtō Zen Buddhist Priest. He was ordained by Kotatsu John Bailes, founder of One Heart Zen. Kotatsu was ordained by Zentatsu Richard Baker Roshi, the sole dharma heir of Suzuki Roshi, and received full dharma transmission (Shiho) from Zoketsu Norman Fischer, founder of Everyday Zen, and former abbot of the San Francisco Zen Center.

MISSION (short version)

Our mission is to further the spread of Sōtō Zen Buddhist teaching (Dharma), train individuals in seated-meditation (zazen),  and provide a venue for a community (sangha) of people to practice Zen in the Sōtō tradition.

EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES

Weekly meditations and discussions are held, at various locations; please email for scheduling and location. 

In addition to regular / weekly meditation and Zen teaching, we also celebrate Rohatsu yearly on the eighth day of the 12th month (December 8th), which is the world-wide commemoration of Buddha’s Enlightenment: the day when Siddhartha Gautama faced and defeated Mara, and became Lord Buddha in the 6th century B.C.E.  Everyone is welcome to join us for meditation and to celebrate this day for the benefit of all being.
